Biography
The journey, unfiltered.
From street rap to gospel hip-hop: over twenty years on stage, and an encounter that changed everything.
Identity and origins
DJ Shan, real name Hans M'Luanda, is a Swiss artist of Congolese origin (DRC), based in Lausanne. Active since the 2000s, he's a figure of the Romandy hip-hop scene and of urban music with a spiritual side.
The beginnings
Influenced by his brother Buya, a dancer and co-founder of First Move, he discovered hip-hop as a child: first breakdance, then rap with the group BSS (the duo 2 Lil'Suckas), before turning to DJing. As early as 2005, his first mixtapes revealed his passion for the format; by featuring French-speaking Swiss rappers (La Tombe des Sombres, Retour vers le Passé), he made a name for himself on the Swiss scene. His influences range from The Neptunes to Timbaland and DJ Mehdi. He played Swiss clubs and shared the stage with Method Man and Lil' Scrappy. From 2006 he was seen as a pioneer of Dirty South in French-speaking Switzerland: in 2007, his mixtape Shanville, entirely Dirty South, was the first of its kind in the region; that same year, he established himself as a reference in New Style hip-hop battles.
Crews and collaborations
A member of the Bang Ya Head collective (with D-Say, DJ Jadis, Madi'Bà and Sebastiao Loopes), he was also the official DJ of the First Move dance school and of the group Noir Mafia. With the latter, beyond the stage, came their first joint project in 2008, Suprème Domination, mixed for the rapper Tiger's Vega.
Spiritual turning point
In 2012, a personal encounter with Jesus Christ changed everything. Influenced by DJ Jadis and Tiger's Vega, he became a Christian and put his faith at the heart of his music. He defines himself as a disciple of Christ and turned to gospel hip-hop, still little known in Switzerland back then.
Vision and commitment
For him, hip-hop is a tool for healing, reconciliation and peaceful resistance. In 2024 he launched Freestyle sur mon Mix with Bang Ya Head: dance battles set only to gospel tracks, bringing generations together around the pillars Peace, Love, Unity & Having Fun.
