My expertise
All these stages shaped me. Beyond the mix, I learned to run an event, to read a room in thirty seconds, to absorb the unexpected and, above all, to aim for the real need rather than the easy effect. I know this craft from the inside: its backstage, and its traps.
Why I no longer say yes to everything
In this job, you lose yourself fast. From obeying 'play this, drop that', the DJ ends up a jukebox: told what to play, how and when. Following the trend, fine. Dissolving into it, no. Every DJ is unique, and mine has a signature.
My encounter with Christ gave me a clear bearing: knowing who I am, and how I want to keep practicing my art. I no longer chase quantity; I meet a need that looks like me. The result: far fewer dates, I turn some down myself. But every yes rings true.
I can redo anything from my past. I simply listen to each request with one honest question: would an AI, a jukebox or a jack-of-all-trades DJ do the job? Or does it truly belong to the art I offer? A generalist gets by; I've dug deep into one world, and that's where I bring what no one else can. When I show up, it's win-win. Loving your neighbor as yourself also means telling them the truth about what they really need.
